Meet Katherine
Katherine performs on Show 460.
Katherine Lu (cello), 10, from Frisco, Texas, has studied with Oliver Bennett Schlaffer for three years. She has won many awards, including the Dallas Symphonic Festival in the years of 2021 and 2024. She received honorable mentions in the Collin County Youth Artist Competition. She was accepted to the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (DAAYO) chamber program in 2023, where she was coached by Dallas Symphony Orchestra members Nathan Olson and Jenna Barghouti. This past summer, Katherine attended Meadowmount School of Music where she was the youngest student and studied with Professor Hans Jansen.
Katherine started her musical journey at the age of five on piano. A year later she was introduced to the violin, and when she was seven, she started cello. Katherine has a gorgeous half size cello made by Rich Duke in London, c. 1708, generously loaned to her by Carlsen Cello Foundation in Seattle.
In her free time, Katherine enjoys playing tennis, running, drawing, and singing.
