This week’s Uncommon Combos Highlights Show features teenage chamber music groups that are extraordinary not only for their musicianship, but also for their unusual instrumentation or repertoire. A trio of percussionists who share one marimba, a bassoon sextet, and a flute choir are among the uncommon combos in this celebration of the world of great teen chamber music beyond the string quartet.

The Walnut Hill Cello Trio (cellists Kye-yun Kim, 18, Matan Chorev, 17, and Marcus Johnson, 17) from the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA, performs Requiem by David Popper
The Governor’s School for the Arts Flute Choir (flutists Matthew Aiello, 18; Joshua Vandavier, 18; Dana Leonard, 15; Emily Meyers, 15; and Melanie Libby, 16) from the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, VA, performs “Ecossaise” from The Academie of Dance by Catherine McMichael
Violinist Julia Glenn, 17, from Wellesley, MA; violinist Robert Anemone, 17, from Williamsburg, VA; violist Celia Hatton, 17 from Springfield, VA; cellist Thomas Mesa, 16, from Miami, FL; and bassist Nicholas Schwartz, 17, from Brookline, MA, perform “Serenade for Strings” by composer Stephen Feigenbaum, 18, from Winchester, MA
6HM (pianists SiYi Fang, 19; Kaisaer Ainiwaer, 17; and Wei-Wei Hsu, 16) from Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, MI, performs “America” from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, arranged by Derison Duarte
