The Tim Banker Talent Development Award is a one-time, non-renewable, need-based grant of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship.

Each year, From the Top will award $20,000 in Tim Banker Talent Development Awards to driven pre-collegiate musicians ages 8-17 with financial need. As one of the first members of From the Top’s creative team, Tim Banker created a supportive environment for young musicians on From the Top. Throughout his 20+ year career at From the Top, Tim was a coach, teacher, and mentor to all From the Top alumni. This Award was funded in his honor to support the development of young talent by connecting them with private lessons and mentorship opportunities that might otherwise be financially unattainable.

Award benefits:

  • Up to $10,000 to support private lessons, consultation lessons, summer camp/festival tuition and travel, and workshop or masterclass tuition and travel.
  • Participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab (includes appearance on NPR’s From the Top)
  • Mentorship

Eligibility and Restrictions:

  • Applicants must be high school juniors or below.
  • Please note that this is a pre-college scholarship, and the funds cannot be used for college tuition.
  • Recipients are required to participate fully in  From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship program.

How to Apply:

An application to From the Top’s Award programs (Jack Kent Cooke and Tim Banker Talent Development) is also an application to From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship program. You do not need to complete two separate applications.
